The Palestine Veterans Association was formed in 2000, bringing together veterans who had served in all branches of HM Forces in Palestine between 1923-1948. An annual reunion was held at Eden Camp Museum, Malton North Yorkshire in October, whilst a short Service of Remembrance took place in May each year at the National Memorial Arboretum(NMA), Alrewas, Staffordshire, to mark the end of the Mandate and withdrawal of HM Forces from Palestine in My 1948.
The Association was one of the first to have a memorial stone placed at the Arboretum, and also helped to fund the Armed Forces Memorial, upon which the names of those who lost their lives whilst serving in Palestine are carved.
With a constant but inevitable decline in membership numbers, the PVA decided to hold its last Eden Camp reunion in 2018 : to mark the 70th anniversary of the withdrawal of troops from Palestine.
With their youngest member now in their 94th year, the Association is now very much in its ‘twilight years’ (as of 2024). However, a wreath is still laid on an annual basis on the PVA Memorial at the NMA (at 1.00pm on the third Saturday in May) and at the Cenotaph in London in November.
There is also a permanent and comprehensive textual and photographic exhibition about the conflict in Hut 12 at Eden Camp Museum, Malton, North Yorkshire. Palestine contact at Eden Camp is : nick@edencamp.co.uk
